Wide product range, complete top technology
FIM/IMD
FIM/IMD stands for Film Insert Molding and Inmold Decoration and with this technology a thin foil is screen printed from the back to create a graphic image. This film can then be 3D formed with an HPVF machine (high pressure vacuum forming), and injection molded (back injection molding) with a plastic granulate on the printed side. This creates a thermoplastic product with a high-quality appearance in relatively few steps.
Advantages

More design freedom – with this technique you can upgrade injection molding products that are not possible with other techniques, or are usually very expensive

More colors – where you are limited when painting injection molded parts, you can achieve many more colors and effects with the FIM/IMD technique

More durable – because we screen print on the back of the foil, the ink layer (often the weakest link with regard to scratch resistance and UV resistance) is very well protected and the front of the foil will absorb this

For low and high volumes - because changing colors can be done quite quickly and the screen printing process is fast, it is an attractive process for quantities of 500 pieces to 100,000 pieces per year.

Cheaper – Screen printing is a relatively cheap, very flexible and proven process and is therefore usually cheaper in your economic business case, especially for lower quantities.

The technology is already used today in many applications such as Automotive interior & exterior, consumer electronics, medical devices, electronic devices, white goods, machine & equipment construction, dashboards, etc.
Smart plastics
In addition to screen printing with graphic inks, Metafas also has more than 20 years of experience with screen printing of electronically conductive inks such as silver. Since 2022, we have started developing 'smart plastics' with which we apply sensors, heating elements and components to the foil to provide the decorative foils with smart functionalities.
