Innovate and improve constant focus

Metafas has a lot of (production) knowledge and experience with screen printing of conductive inks on flexible substrates, and as a result we have been at the origin of many Printed Electronics innovations. Since 2022, the focus has been on Smart Textile, Smart Plastics and Smart Packaging. Metafas has also developed from build-to-print to full service product development and production and we can support you from TRL 4 level with developing, prototyping, testing, industrializing and scaling up to series production of your printed electronics application.

With our fast sheet-to-sheet process we can make small to large products (up to 1,000 mm) very competitively, in both low (protos) and high quantities (depending on the size) between 100,000 and 500,000 pieces for you. And this does not stop with a substrate with printed electronics, but we also offer options for developing and producing connectors, transferring or assembling in the end product, up to and including (with partners) developing the electronics, PCB and software.

Metafas | smart thinking in printed electronics

Metafas has been involved in various Smart Plastic applications for many years. With this technique we print sensors directly onto thermoplastic product, or first onto a substrate and then combine this substrate with, for example, an injection molded product. This can be done by backinjection the foil in an injection molding machine, or a foil that is subsequently mounted on an injection molded product with tape.

  • Cover glass with touch sensor

  • FIM/IMD technology with sensors

  • Various sensors on PET/PC foil

Substrate

The carrier material on which we screen print is usually PET, PC or PMMA. We will work with you to decide which one is best for your application. The thickness can also vary from very thin (eg 100 m) to 3 mm or more.

High Pressure Vacuum Forming

With our Niebling HPVF machine we can also very accurately 3D deform foils for the injection molding process.

Sensors and tracks

We apply electrically conductive traces to the substrate with our highly accurate screen printing process (additive process). With these traces we can create sensors or make a connection to a Light Emitting Diode (LED) or a passive component such as a resistor.
Metafas has its own assembly line where we also have a modern pick & place machine to quickly and accurately place components on the substrates using the SMT (surface mounting technology) process.
